- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic grated or minced
- 4 green onions cut into 1 inch slices
Sauce
- 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon sriracha
- 1/4 cup water or beef broth
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
For Serving
- Sesame seeds for garnish
- Rice for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: Whisk together the grated ginger, minced garlic, low sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, hoisin sauce, toasted sesame oil, sriracha, water (or beef broth), and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth and set aside.
- Cook the Beef: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and lightly spray with cooking oil. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Season lightly with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Add Green Onions and Sauce: Stir in the sliced green onions into the cooked beef, then pour the prepared sauce over the meat. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
- Thicken the Sauce: Continue cooking and stirring the mixture for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef evenly.
- Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and additional scallions if desired. Serve immediately with steamed rice.
Notes
- Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
- Adjust the amount of sriracha to control the spice level.
- For extra flavor, toast the sesame seeds before garnishing.
- Ground beef can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- The nutrition information does not include the rice served with the dish.
