Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Coating
- 2–3 large chicken breasts, butterflied
- 1.5 cup all purpose flour or gluten free flour
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp red pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp cooking oil, plus more as needed for pan frying
- ⅓ cup hot honey, more as needed
Toppings and Serving
- Pickles
- Red onion slices
- Buns (optional, not included in nutrition)
Instructions
- Prepare the seasoned flour: In a shallow bowl, combine all purpose flour with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and red pepper. Whisk well and set aside.
- Prepare the egg wash: In another shallow bowl, whisk the eggs together thoroughly and set aside.
- Butterfly the chicken: Slice each chicken breast in half horizontally to create thinner pieces, which cook faster and are easier to bite through.
- Coat the chicken: Pat the butterflied chicken dry with a paper towel. Dip each piece first into the egg wash, then dredge thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture. Ensure the chicken is fully coated and place coated pieces on a baking sheet.
- Cook the chicken: Choose one cooking method: Oven: Preheat to 375ºF, spray the coated chicken with cooking oil, and bake for 16 minutes until internal temperature reaches 165ºF. Air fryer: Spray coated chicken with cooking oil, air fry at 375ºF for 14 minutes until cooked through. Skillet: Heat ¼ cup oil in a skillet over medium heat, cook chicken breasts about 6 minutes per side until golden and internal temperature is 165ºF.
- Add hot honey and assemble: Once chicken is cooked and crispy, drizzle hot honey generously on both sides. Place on toasted buns with mayonnaise, pickles, red onion slices, or toppings of your choice. Serve immediately and enjoy!
