- 1 cup cornstarch
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil for frying
Honey Butter Sauce
- ½ cup honey
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken: Cut 1 pound of boneless skinless chicken into 1-inch cubes and place them into a large ziplock bag. Sprinkle the chicken with ¼ teaspoon garlic salt, then crack 1 large egg on top. Massage the bag with your hands to evenly coat the chicken with the egg and salt.
- Coat the chicken: Add 1 cup of cornstarch to the bag with the chicken and seal it. Shake well to coat each piece thoroughly with the cornstarch.
- Fry the chicken: Heat ⅓ cup vegetable oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken pieces and cook for 7-8 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the honey butter sauce: In the same skillet, melt ⅓ cup unsalted butter over medium heat. Add ½ cup honey, 2 cloves minced garlic, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, and 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar. Whisk the mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce becomes bubbly and slightly thickened.
- Toss chicken in sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss it thoroughly in the honey butter sauce to coat evenly. Garnish with sesame seeds and diced green onions if desired.
- Serve: Serve the honey butter chicken hot over rice and enjoy your flavorful meal.
Notes
- Store cooled chicken in an airtight container and refrigerate for 3-4 days for best freshness.
- To reheat, microwave leftover chicken for 1-2 minutes until warmed through to maintain flavor and texture.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute soy sauce with tamari or gluten-free soy sauce.
- Use fresh garlic cloves for the best flavor impact in the sauce.
- Be sure to not overcrowd the pan when frying chicken to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
