Description

This Homemade Churros Recipe delivers crispy, golden-brown churros dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with a rich, velvety chocolate dipping sauce. Perfectly fried and piped for the classic ridged texture, these churros make a delightful treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

For Churros

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • vegetable oil (for frying)

For The Cinnamon Sugar

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For The Chocolate Dipping Sauce

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounce dark chocolate (chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Sauce: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat, add chopped dark chocolate, and let it sit for one minute. Stir until smooth, then mix in vanilla extract. Set aside.
  2. Make the Churro Dough: In a medium saucepan, combine water, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Once butter melts, reduce heat to low and add flour. Stir vigorously until mixture forms a ball, about 1 minute. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough comes together.
  3. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C) for frying churros.
  4. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar: Mix ½ cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a shallow dish. Set aside.
  5. Pipe and Fry Churros: Transfer dough to a piping bag with a large star nozzle. Pipe 3-4 inch long strips directly into hot oil, snipping ends with scissors. Fry churros for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Drain and Coat: Using a slotted spoon, remove churros from oil and place on paper towel-lined plate to drain. While still warm, roll churros in cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Serve: Serve warm churros with the prepared chocolate dipping sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Fry churros in small batches; overcrowding causes soggy, undercooked centers.
  • Use a large star piping tip for the classic ridged texture and even cooking.
  • The dough will appear separated or odd when eggs are added—keep mixing until it comes together smoothly.
  • For convenience, you can pipe raw churros on a baking sheet and freeze them. Fry directly from frozen when desired.
  • Serve churros warm alongside the rich chocolate sauce for the best experience.
