Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large cabbage
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 180C/350F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easy.
  2. Prepare Garlic Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, melted butter, and minced garlic to create a flavorful brushing mixture for the cabbage steaks.
  3. Slice the Cabbage: Cut the cabbage lengthwise into 1-inch thick steaks, discarding any excess leaves. Arrange the cabbage steaks on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Season the Steaks: Using a brush, generously coat the tops of each cabbage steak with the garlic butter oil mixture. Then sprinkle evenly with salt and pepper for seasoning.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the cabbage steaks for 30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and crisp.

Notes

  • To store leftovers, let the cabbage steaks cool completely and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, place the steaks on a baking sheet and heat in the oven at 175C/350F for 6-8 minutes until warmed through, or reheat in an air fryer at 190C/375F for 3-4 minutes.
  • For variation, add toppings such as parmesan cheese, fresh herbs, toasted pine nuts, or toasted pecans.
  • Make the recipe vegan by substituting regular butter with vegan butter spread.
  • Enhance flavors by serving with hot honey sauce, garlic yogurt sauce, or spicy mayo as dipping options.
