Description

This Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese recipe combines the rich flavors of garlic butter and a blend of melty cheeses on soft sourdough bread, cooked to a golden brown on a skillet. Perfect for a comforting and savory snack or quick meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Garlic Butter Mixture

  • 4 tablespoon softened unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 3 cloves garlic, very finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped Italian parsley
  • Salt and pepper – to taste

Sandwich

  • 4 slices sandwich bread (preferably sourdough with soft crust)
  • 1 cup freshly shredded cheese (Gruyere, Colby Jack, and smoked Cheddar blend)

Instructions

  1. Prepare garlic butter: In a bowl, mix softened butter, mayonnaise, minced garlic, and chopped parsley until evenly combined. Season lightly with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Assemble sandwiches: Spread the garlic butter mixture on one side of each bread slice. Place shredded cheese on top of one buttered side, then cover with another slice, buttered side facing up.
  3. Heat skillet: Warm a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat to ensure slow, even melting of the cheese and golden browning of the bread.
  4. Cook sandwiches: Place sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on each side, flipping multiple times as needed. Gently press down while flipping to encourage even melting and browning.
  5. Serve: Once golden brown and cheese is fully melted, slice and serve immediately while warm and melty.

Notes

  • Freshly grate the cheese for best melting results.
  • Pre-packaged cheese slices like American or Colby Jack are good alternatives if fresh cheese is unavailable.
  • Cooking over medium-low heat prevents burning the bread before the cheese melts.
  • Flipping multiple times during cooking promotes even heating and melting.
  • Use a non-stick skillet or griddle to avoid sticking and for ease of flipping.
  • Cheese substitute options include Swiss, Monterey Jack, Havarti, Gouda, or Muenster.
  • Try different bread types like brioche or sliced sourdough for variations.
  • You can add extras such as roasted garlic cloves, deli meats, caramelized onions, or sliced apples for enhanced flavor.
