Description

Caprese Skewers are a fresh and easy appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves drizzled with olive oil and balsamic glaze. This no-cook recipe is perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Skewers

  • 16 to 18 4-inch wooden skewers

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 1 12-ounce container miniature cherry-sized fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves (about 36 leaves)

Seasoning

  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Skewers: Take the 4-inch wooden skewers and begin threading each with 1 cherry tomato, followed by 1 fresh basil leaf (fold in half if large), then 1 miniature mozzarella ball, another fresh basil leaf, and finish with 1 more cherry tomato.
  2. Arrange on Platter: Once all skewers are assembled, arrange them neatly on a serving platter for presentation.
  3. Season and Drizzle: Lightly drizzle extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze over the skewers. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste to enhance the flavors.

Notes

  • If fresh mozzarella balls are not available, bocconcini can be used as a substitute.
  • Basil leaves can be substituted with fresh mint for a different flavor profile.
  • The balsamic glaze can be replaced with aged balsamic vinegar if preferred, but use sparingly as it is less syrupy.
  • For a gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly dish, confirm that the wooden skewers are free from cross-contamination.
  • These skewers are best served fresh to maintain the texture of the ingredients.
