Description
Brown Sugar Bacon Little Smokies are a delicious appetizer featuring smoky sausages wrapped in crispy bacon, coated with sweet brown sugar and a touch of black pepper, baked to perfection until caramelized and savory.
Ingredients
Scale
Little Smokies
- 1 (16 oz) package little smokies sausages
Bacon
- 1 lb thin-cut bacon, each slice cut into three
Coating
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- Freshly grated black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Oven and Pan: Grease a baking dish or sheet pan with nonstick spray and preheat the oven to 350°F. Alternatively, line the pan with foil for easier cleanup.
- Wrap Sausages: Pat the little smokies dry with a paper towel. Wrap each sausage with a piece of the cut bacon and secure it with a toothpick to hold it in place during cooking.
- Coat with Brown Sugar: Place the brown sugar into a large zip-top bag. Add a few bacon-wrapped sausages at a time, seal the bag, and shake gently to coat them evenly with the brown sugar. Remove the coated sausages and place them on the prepared pan. Repeat this process with all the sausages.
- Season: Sprinkle freshly grated black pepper over the sausages to add a mild spicy flavor, according to your taste preference.
- Bake: Bake the sausages in the preheated oven for 35 minutes or until the bacon is browned and caramelized. For crispier bacon, you can broil the sausages for a few additional minutes, keeping a close eye to avoid burning.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy these sweet and savory bites as a perfect party appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Using thin-cut bacon allows it to cook thoroughly alongside the little smokies without remaining chewy.
- For easier cleanup, lining the baking pan with foil is recommended.
- Broiling at the end helps achieve crispier bacon but watch carefully to prevent burning.
- Adjust the amount of black pepper to suit your flavor preference or omit for a sweeter bite.
- To make serving easier, soak toothpicks in water before use to prevent burning during cooking.
