Description

A hearty and flavorful baked beans recipe featuring ground beef and crispy bacon, slow-cooked or baked to perfection. This dish combines sweet and tangy elements with classic baked beans for a comforting side or main course.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 8 slices bacon

Beans Mixture

  • 3 15-ounce cans baked beans drained
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

Instructions

  1. Brown the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef thoroughly until browned. Drain the excess fat and set the beef aside.
  2. Cook the Bacon: Cook the bacon until crispy either in the oven or a skillet, then let it cool and crumble or chop into small pieces.
  3. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl or slow cooker, combine the drained baked beans, browned ground beef, crumbled bacon, chopped onions, sugar, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, and vinegar. Mix well to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
  4. Cook the Beans: You have three options to cook: (1) In a slow cooker on high for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, or on low for 2 to 3 hours; (2) On the stovetop in a saucepan on medium-low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally; (3) In a baking dish in a 350°F oven for 1 hour until bubbly and heated through.

Notes

  • Leftover beans can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Reheat leftovers in the microwave or oven for best results.
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or smoked paprika.
  • Use turkey bacon or lean ground turkey as a lower-fat alternative.
  • Drain the beans well to avoid a watery dish.
