Welcome to LinaDinner !

Hi, I’m Lina Hart, and I’m so happy you’ve found your way to Linadinner. This website has become my creative space, my joy, and honestly, my therapy. If you’re looking for recipes that won’t stress you out but will still make you feel proud when you put dinner on the table, you’re in exactly the right place.

Growing Up with Food and Family

I was raised in a big Greek-American family in Chicago, where food was never just about eating. It was about connection, celebration, and showing love in the most tangible way possible. My yiayia lived with us, and she ruled the kitchen with an iron spatula and a heart of pure gold. She’d start cooking at dawn, and by the time I got home from school, the whole house smelled like garlic, lemon, and fresh bread.

Here’s the thing though: I was a picky, stubborn kid who wanted nothing to do with cooking. I’d watch her roll out phyllo dough by hand and think it looked like the most tedious thing in the world. I wanted to be outside playing soccer or hanging out with friends, not stuck in a hot kitchen learning to make spanakopita. My yiayia would shake her head at me and say in her thick accent, “One day, you understand.”

She was right, but it took years. I went to college, moved to Minneapolis for a job in graphic design, and suddenly found myself completely unmoored. I was living alone in a new city where I didn’t know anyone, working long hours, and eating terrible food. One particularly rough winter evening, I called my mom nearly in tears, homesick and overwhelmed. She talked me through making avgolemono soup, my yiayia’s specialty. I burned the rice the first time. The lemon curdled the second time. But on the third attempt, when I finally tasted that silky, tangy broth, I broke down crying. It tasted like home. It tasted like being taken care of.

That was the turning point. Cooking stopped being something old-fashioned that my yiayia did and became my lifeline. I started calling home for recipes, experimenting in my tiny kitchen, and inviting coworkers over for dinner parties. Food became how I built community in a place where I’d felt so isolated.

Why I Created This Website

Linadinner started because I noticed a gap between the cooking I was doing and what I saw online. So many recipe sites felt either too simplistic or unrealistically complicated. I wanted to create something for people like me: home cooks who want to make genuinely delicious food but don’t have unlimited time or access to specialty ingredients. People who are feeding families on weeknights but still want meals that feel special and homemade.

This site is for anyone who wants approachable, reliable recipes that fit into real life. Maybe you’re a parent trying to get something nutritious on the table between soccer practice and homework. Maybe you’re new to cooking and need clear guidance without judgment. Maybe you just love comfort food and want recipes that deliver every single time. You’ll find everything here from quick weeknight dinners to classic comfort foods, easy desserts that always impress, family meals that bring everyone together, and seasonal recipes that make the most of what’s fresh. My goal is to make cooking feel doable and even enjoyable, not like another stressful item on your to-do list.

How I Develop Every Recipe

I test every single recipe on Linadinner in my own home kitchen, usually multiple times before I ever consider publishing it. I don’t have professional equipment or a dedicated test kitchen. I cook with the same basic tools and appliances you probably have: a standard gas range, basic pots and pans, and ingredients from regular grocery stores.

When I’m working on a recipe, I make it at least twice, often three or four times if I’m tweaking flavors or adjusting techniques. I pay close attention to the small details that can make or break a dish: how long vegetables actually take to caramelize, whether a substitution genuinely works, if the seasoning needs adjusting for different palates. I write instructions the way I wish recipes were written for me, with enough detail to feel confident but not so much that it’s overwhelming.

My husband Dan is my primary taste tester, and he’s brutally honest in the best way. If something isn’t quite right, he’ll tell me, and we’ll talk through what might improve it. I also cook for friends regularly, and their feedback helps me understand if a recipe is truly ready. If I’m not completely confident that a recipe will work beautifully for you, it doesn’t go on the site. It’s that simple.

Running Linadinner Together

While I handle all the recipe development, cooking, and writing, my husband Dan takes care of the technical side of running Linadinner. He manages the website backend, handles our social media presence, and deals with all the tech issues that would absolutely drive me crazy. We met in Minneapolis about eight years ago, and he’s been my biggest supporter from the beginning. When I first mentioned wanting to start a food blog, he immediately started researching website platforms and helping me figure out the logistics. He’s not particularly interested in cooking himself, but he loves being part of this project, and honestly, I couldn’t do it without him. We make a good team: I create the content, and he makes sure people can actually find it and use it. It’s become something we build together, even though our roles are completely different.

My Commitment to You

I take quality seriously because I know you’re trusting me with your time, money, and dinner. Every recipe I publish needs to meet a high standard: it has to taste excellent, work reliably, and be worth the effort. I’m not interested in flooding the site with mediocre recipes just to have more content. I’d rather share fewer recipes that I genuinely stand behind than dozens that are just okay.

When you make something from Linadinner, I want you to feel confident it’ll turn out well. I want your family to ask for it again. I want you to feel capable and proud. That’s what drives everything I do here.

I also believe in being completely upfront about how this website operates. Linadinner earns income through display advertising and affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission when you purchase products I recommend. This income helps cover the costs of running the site and allows me to keep creating new recipes. I only recommend products I actually use in my own kitchen, and all my opinions are honest and my own.
